About Upstart

At Upstart, we’re united by a mission that matters: to radically reduce the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. Every day, we bring creativity, experimentation, and advanced AI to reshape access to credit, helping millions move forward financially with clarity and confidence.

As the leading AI lending marketplace, we partner with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both radically intelligent and deeply human. Our platform runs over one million predictions per borrower using more than 1,800 signals, powering smarter, fairer decisions for millions of customers. But the numbers only hint at the impact. Every idea, every voice, and every contribution moves us closer to a world where credit never stands between people and their financial progress.

We’re proudly digital‑first, giving most Upstarters the flexibility to do their best work from wherever they thrive, alongside teammates across 80+ cities in the US and Canada. Digital‑first doesn’t mean distant. We’re intentional about in‑person connection through team onsites, planning sessions, and moments that spark creativity and trust. And whether you choose to work primarily from home or collaborate in‑person from one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City (opening Summer 2026), you’ll have the support to work in the way that works best for you.

If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.

The Team

Upstart’s Servicing Analytics team plays a critical role of providing analytical capability for Upstart’s servicing functions to enable data‑driven decision making. We leverage our analytical and technical skills to support our partners with a multitude of services.

About The Role

As the Staff Data Analyst on the Servicing Analytics team, you will play a pivotal role in influencing Upstart’s success. Partnering closely with our Servicing product management, operations, engineering, and ML teams, you’ll work directly with key stakeholders, helping drive understanding, insights, decision‑making, and data infrastructure relating to the development, optimization, and enhancement of our recoveries and collections strategy. You’ll contribute to key areas such as identifying areas of opportunity via business reviews with leaders and product experiments, and driving operational efficiency. This role involves conducting in‑depth analyses, building business intelligence pipelines, designing A/B tests, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to drive impacts.

You will lead the development of analytical capabilities to support servicing initiatives and drive efficiency improvements. Creating regular executive-level presentations to communicate findings and strategic recommendations will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will design experiments and conduct quantitative analysis to test hypotheses about our users and their interactions with our servicing initiatives, collaborating with partners to prioritize the right problems and opportunities. Additionally, you will work with analytics engineering and software engineering teams to continuously enhance our servicing data capabilities, making new data accessible as the business expands, and accelerating the time to insights. Developing and maintaining business intelligence tools to support reporting and decision-making, mentoring junior team members, and fostering a culture of excellence in data and analytics will also be central to your role.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of work experience in increasingly senior analytical roles within the technology and finance industries
  • Strong background in payments, product, or operations analytics, with proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or R
  • Exceptional ability to derive actionable insights from data and communicate analytical stories effectively
  • Experience working with large datasets, unstructured data, data modeling, and data pipelines using tools like Databricks, DBT, Looker, Snowflake, Redshift, Tableau, Mode
  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or other quantitative fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and quantitative background with experience in conducting and evaluating A/B tests, especially in financial or operational contexts
  • Expertise in consumer lending and knowledge of post-origination servicing and operations
  • Ability to craft executive‑ready narratives around complex business topics and influence VP+ decision-making
  • Proven ability to collaborate deeply with cross‑functional teams
  • Experience balancing multiple workstreams and priorities to maximize organizational impact
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior team members on technical subjects

Position Location

This role is available in a remote capacity, allowing flexibility to work from anywhere within the U.S. while encouraging participation in periodic in‑person meetings and team onsites.

Travel Requirements

As a digital-first company, most work can be accomplished remotely. However, team members are encouraged to attend in‑person sessions, which typically occur once or twice per quarter for 2-4 days, to foster collaboration and team bonding.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, bonuses, and quarterly vesting stock options
  • Generous 401(k) plan with Upstart matching $2 for every $1 contributed, up to $15,000 annually
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) with discounted stock purchase options
  • Affordable medical, dental, and vision plans, with Upstart covering 90% to 100% of the costs
  • Health Savings Account contributions for eligible plans
  • Income protection benefits including company-paid Life, AD&D.

Equal Opportunity

Upstart is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetics, or any other protected characteristic under federal, state, or local law. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all team members are valued and empowered. All new hires are required to pass a background check as part of the onboarding process.
