Our client is a well-established mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems across commercial and industrial projects. With strong in-house capabilities in BIM, prefabrication, and mechanical construction, they are known for delivering high-quality, efficient solutions through a design-build approach.
They are seeking a Piping Designer to join their growing team in a fully remote capacity.
Position Summary
The Piping Designer will play a key role in developing detailed piping layouts and coordinated models that support both fabrication and field installation. This position works closely with engineering, project management, shop fabrication, and field teams to ensure that designs are accurate, constructible, and optimized for efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Coordination
- Create detailed 2D and 3D piping system layouts using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software
- Interpret P&IDs, specifications, and construction documents
- Perform BIM coordination and clash detection with other trades
- Produce coordinated drawings to support project execution
Fabrication & Prefabrication
- Develop spool drawings, isometrics, and fabrication-ready packages
- Generate and manage bills of materials (BOMs)
- Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure drawings align with shop capabilities and workflows
- Support prefabrication and modularization strategies to improve efficiency
- Incorporate welding, materials, tolerances, and assembly sequencing into designs
Field & Constructability
- Ensure designs are constructible and optimized for installation
- Coordinate with project managers and field teams to resolve design challenges
- Revise drawings based on RFIs, field feedback, and project changes
- Consider installation sequencing, access, and site constraints in design development
Qualifications
- 3+ years of piping design experience within a mechanical contractor or construction environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar BIM/design tools
- Strong understanding of piping systems, materials, and installation methods
- Experience developing fabrication drawings and shop deliverables
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or supporting fabrication shops or prefabrication facilities
- Familiarity with BIM coordination tools such as Navisworks
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes (ASME, etc.)
- Experience with industrial or process piping systems
