Join a leading firm in the Engineering Services industry delivering engineering, design, and controls solutions for industrial and mission-critical facilities. This Control Designer opportunity focuses on developing accurate AutoCAD drawings and electrical documentation that support automation, control panels, instrumentation, and field commissioning. The role offers mentorship, exposure to complex industrial automation projects, and career growth within controls engineering and design.
Responsibilities:
- Create and revise AutoCAD drawings and technical documentation for industrial control systems and automation projects.
- Develop and maintain drawing packages including control panel layouts, electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and panel risers.
- Produce mechanical and electrical installation drawings to support field construction, wiring, and commissioning activities.
- Perform electrical load calculations and size power supplies, circuit breakers, and fuses for control panels.
- Maintain organized, standards-compliant drawing sets and as-built documentation throughout project lifecycles.
- Conduct drawing reviews and self-checks to ensure accuracy, identify design conflicts, and resolve issues with project teams.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to align drawings with project scope and schedules.
Must-Have Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical experience is a plus).
- Experience producing electrical schematics, control panel layouts, instrumentation diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Practical knowledge of electrical load calculations and power supply / circuit breaker / fuse sizing.
- Familiarity with industrial automation concepts and PLC-based control panels.
- 4+ years of experience creating controls or electrical drawings in industrial or engineering environments (or equivalent experience).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation practices, and ability to manage multiple drawing packages.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD tools.
- Direct exposure to PLC programming or ladder logic fundamentals.
- Experience with field commissioning, testing, or as-built documentation processes.
- Background in energy, life sciences, mission-critical, or process-control environments.
- Formal drafting, electrical, or engineering technology credential (Associate degree or higher preferred).
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and engineering documentation standards.
