2. About the Opportunity:

The Junior Instructional Designer role supports the development and design of instructional materials and learning strategies. This position contributes to creating effective educational content that aligns with program requirements and promotes learner engagement, thereby supporting the organization’s training and educational objectives.


3. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing instructional materials including courses, curriculum, student guides, job aids, SOPs, and training manuals.
  • Support content design and layout to optimize learning and meet learner needs.
  • Incorporate new curriculum content with relevant examples and applications.
  • Help maintain classroom and virtual instructional techniques that enhance engagement and learning.
  • Contribute to alternative teaching strategies to sustain learner motivation.
  • Assist senior staff with test analysis, including test item development and scoring methods.
  • Implement learning technologies such as multimedia and interactive activities.
  • Collaborate with senior instructional designers, graphic designers, and subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and instructional integrity.


4. Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Up to 3 years of instructional design or training development experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of instructional design principles and learning theory.
  • Experience with learning tools like LMS platforms, multimedia tools, or e-learning authoring software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn DOE systems including STRIPES, FAST, PAGE, and PMC.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain federal clearance up to Top Secret/DOE Q levels.


Preferred:

  • Experience or coursework related to energy systems, critical minerals, applied technologies, or federal program environments.
  • Familiarity with IIJA-funded programs, federal Technical Assistance, or multi-stakeholder training.
  • Experience assisting with curriculum development for technical, scientific, or regulatory topics.
  • Understanding of adult-learning principles and DOE communication standards.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear instructional content.


5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

  • The pay range and compensation package for this role will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
