About the role
The position is at a tech company. We're looking for a Director of People Operations to help grow and scale our HR operations function as we expand internationally. This role will lead the People Operations team and oversee key employee lifecycle processes — onboarding, offboarding, compliance training, and job changes — while also driving our expansion into new countries.
We're currently establishing entities in the UK and Canada, with Germany planned next, and expect to enter several additional countries next year. This role will be instrumental in that expansion, partnering cross-functionally with Finance and Legal to determine how we operate compliantly and how we compensate and support employees in each new country.
Responsibilities
- Own and scale our core employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, offboarding, compliance training, and updates related to promotions and job changes
- Manage the People Operations team, currently consisting of one manager with two direct reports
- Increase the visibility and accessibility of HR Operations for employees
- Lead the operational efforts involved in establishing new international legal entities, including the UK, Canada, and Germany, along with additional countries planned for next year
- Oversee the ongoing management of HR operations and compliance across all countries where we operate
- Collaborate with Finance and Legal to address compliance, payroll, and legal requirements associated with operating in each new country
- Manage and grow our relationship with our Employer of Record (EOR) provider, supporting our remote workforce across approximately 19 countries
- Develop scalable People Operations processes, templates, and resources as the organization and function continue to grow
- Apply strong AI knowledge to the function, using AI to create smarter, more efficient People Operations processes and enhance the employee experience.
Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of experience in HR/People Operations, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
- Demonstrated ownership of HRIS strategy, including leading an implementation, migration, or significant optimization involving Workday, Rippling, ADP, or a similar platform
- Experience managing the complete employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, organizational changes, data integrity, and process development
- Experience overseeing HR compliance operations, including I-9s, leave administration, policy management, and audits
- Experience building or scaling a People Operations function within a high-growth SaaS or startup environment
- Required international experience, particularly across EMEA; experience in Japan, Singapore, or South America is a strong advantage
- Hands-on experience establishing new international entities and implementing HR compliance and operations in new countries
- Experience partnering with or managing an Employer of Record (EOR) for international employees
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset — this role should be a "yes, how can I help" partner to the business rather than a bottleneck or blocker
- Strong experience leading, managing, and developing teams
- Comfort working through ambiguity and creating processes in areas where they do not yet exist
