Job Description: The Family Office & Trust Accountant (“Accountant”) reports to the CEO and manages the books and records for a variety of small business and passive investment entities and trusts, as well as the personal books and records of several individuals. The Accountant is responsible for handling daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounts management and reconciliation, proper recordation of transactions, filings, and other general accounting/office tasks. The accountant also will have some administrative responsibilities primarily as it relates to creating invoices for various services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Professional and relevant communication with tax, insurance, legal, and investment management service providers.
- Preparing and analyzing financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and management needs and direction.
- Ongoing cash management, including bank account reconciliations.
- Review and process invoices, payments, and transfers (including wires, ACH, transfers).
- Preparation and filing of a small number of 1099s, W2s, and property taxes.
- Ongoing management of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable functions.
- Processing of entities’ payroll and related matters.
- Preparing budgets, forecasts, various analyses as requested.
- Preparing timekeeping, billing and expense reporting information for a small set of professionals.
- Implementing procedural and strategic plans/changes.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of internal controls and compliance procedures.
- Maintaining a high level of confidentiality of family and business dealings.
- Periodic management of the remote work environments for the CEO (receiving mail/packages, supplies).
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and related software.
- Proficiency with bill.com, Ramp, and related software.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software and processes.
Education and Experience:
- At least 6 years of related accounting experience required.
- CPA preferred but not required.
Work Location and Hour Requirements:
- This is a 35-40 hour per week position.
- This is largely a remote working position
- Ideally, the candidate will reside in metro areas of Indianapolis, Indiana or Tampa Bay, Florida.
- Occasional in-person meetings with the CEO and other staff.
