What You'll Be Doing
- Architecting, developing, and enhancing scalable backend services and APIs
- Taking ownership of features from design through deployment and ongoing optimisation
- Collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, QA, and DevOps teams
- Championing engineering best practices through code reviews, testing, and mentoring
- Improving system reliability, scalability, security, and performance
- Building and maintaining cloud-native applications and microservices
- Influencing architectural decisions and technical strategy
- Producing high-quality technical documentation and API specifications
- Identifying opportunities to simplify systems, reduce complexity, and improve delivery speed
What We're Looking For
Key Experience
- Strong track record building and supporting production-grade RESTful APIs
- Commercial experience developing backend applications, ideally using Python and FastAPI
- Expertise with PostgreSQL database design, optimisation, and maintenance
- Experience integrating external APIs and third-party services
- Advanced understanding of automated testing across unit, integration, and API layers
- Experience working with Docker and containerised deployments
- Success delivering software within Agile, cross-functional engineering teams
Technical Capabilities
- API-first development methodologies and OpenAPI standards
- Modern software architecture and distributed systems design
- Database modelling, ORM frameworks, migrations, and schema management
- Security-focused development including authentication, authorisation, encryption, and secrets management
- Cloud platform experience, particularly Microsoft Azure
- CI/CD pipeline development and DevOps best practices
- Monitoring, observability, logging, and performance tuning
Bonus Points For
- Experience within Healthcare, HealthTech, MedTech, Life Sciences, or regulated environments
- Background in high-growth SaaS or product-led technology businesses
- Knowledge of FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, and the wider Python ecosystem
