The Staff Accountant – CIP & Cost Accounting supports the financial close and reporting processes with a primary focus on Construction in Progress (CIP), capital projects, inventory, and cost of goods sold (COGS). This role is critical in ensuring accurate capitalization, cost tracking, and expense recognition for network buildouts and operational activities in a capital intensive telecommunications environment. The position emphasizes detailed account reconciliations, cost analysis, and transaction support.

Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction in Progress (CIP) & Capital Accounting

• Track and reconcile Construction in Progress balances across multiple capital projects
• Monitor capitalization timing and ensure proper placement of assets into service
• Support asset capitalization related to network infrastructure and equipment
• Assist with preparation of fixed asset additions, transfers, and retirements
• Partner with Engineering and Operations to understand project status and cost drivers
• Maintain CIP schedules and supporting documentation

Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) & Inventory Accounting

• Record and analyze COGS related to telecom services, infrastructure, and materials
• Support inventory accounting and cost flow (where applicable)
• Assist in identifying and resolving COGS variances and unusual cost trends
• Ensure proper expense recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Support cost allocations and standard costing processes, if applicable

Financial Close & General Ledger

• Prepare journal entries related to CIP, depreciation, amortization, and COGS
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
• Prepare balance sheet and P&L account reconciliations
• Assist with variance analysis and provide explanations for fluctuations
• Maintain accurate and timely accounting records

Reporting & Audit Support

• Prepare supporting schedules including reconciliations for internal reporting, audits, and reviews
• Assist in responding to audit requests related to capital assets and costs
• Support lender, investor, or management reporting as needed
• Ensure documentation supports accounting conclusions and balances

Systems, Controls & Process Improvement

• Maintain organized documentation for capital projects and cost accounting
• Assist in improving CIP tracking, reporting, and close efficiency
• Support ERP and reporting system enhancements
• Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and controls

QualificationsRequired

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 1–4 years of accounting experience
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines in a close environment
