About the role

Lead Fire Protection & Plumbing Engineer – Mission Critical

Remote, US | Permanent

A well-regarded consulting engineering firm is adding fire protection and plumbing design leadership following a sustained run of growth. The work sits across mission critical, data center and advanced technology facilities. This is not a single fixed vacancy — the firm is hiring at lead level and above, and the title and package will be set around the person rather than the other way round.

This is a design ownership role. You take the fire protection and plumbing scope from concept through construction administration, working directly alongside the electrical, mechanical and controls teams rather than in isolation from them. The more experienced appointment also carries responsibility for design standards and for developing the engineers underneath you.

Day to day you will:

  • Own fire protection and plumbing design across all project phases
  • Design wet, dry, pre-action and clean agent suppression systems, plus fire alarm interface and detection coordination
  • Design domestic water, sanitary, storm and specialty piping, including systems supporting high-density cooling
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and sizing to NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72 and 2001, IPC/UPC and local amendments
  • Coordinate suppression and water systems against the mechanical cooling strategy and electrical equipment rooms
  • Review submittals, resolve RFIs and attend design reviews
  • Mentor junior engineers and sign off their work

Background we're looking for:

Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. 8+ years designing fire protection and/or plumbing systems in a consulting environment is the entry point, not the ceiling — engineers with 15+ years who are ready to own discipline standards across a portfolio will be slotted in above the lead grade, with the package adjusted accordingly. PE preferred; a fire protection PE or NICET certification is highly regarded. Revit proficiency and hydraulic calculation software experience expected. Mission critical, data center, healthcare, lab or similar high-criticality facility experience is a strong advantage.

Package:

$115,000 – $190,000 base depending on level, plus bonus. Comprehensive benefits, 401(k) with match, strong PTO allowance. Fully remote with a long-term project pipeline and a clear route to principal level.
