About the role

Company Description Burnet Media is an independent publishing house based in Cape Town, established in 2010, with a strong focus on close collaboration with authors. The company helps authors develop books tailored to their specific needs, direct markets, and broader trade sales. Burnet Media publishes into the South African trade through three imprints—Mercury, Two Dogs, and Two Pups—and showcases titles with international potential at the London Book Fair each year. In addition to traditional publishing, the company manages customized publishing projects and offers consulting and production services. Its books are sold and distributed across southern Africa through Jacana Media and Booksite Afrika, giving titles broad regional reach.
Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Project Assistant at Burnet Media. The Project Assistant supports the publishing team in coordinating book projects from initial concept through production and delivery. Day-to-day tasks include organizing project timelines, maintaining schedules, updating project trackers, and ensuring that authors, editors, designers, and other stakeholders have the information and materials they need. The role involves preparing documents and reports, supporting communication with authors and service providers, and assisting with the logistics of customized publishing projects and trade presentations. The Project Assistant also helps with basic administrative duties, digital file management, and quality checks on project deliverables to ensure consistency with Burnet Media’s publishing standards.
