Position Details:Job Title: FinOps Technical Project ManagerLocation: Remote (within Continental US or Canada - East Coast preferred) or, on-site in South San Francisco, CA.Duration: 12+ Months - contract to hireNote: will work closely with teams in both Central Europe CET and US West Coast PST.About Position:
The Technical Project Manager will play a critical role in supporting the execution of workstreams within the FinOps & Technical Enablement function of Computational Sciences Center of Excellence Portfolio & Operations (CS CoE P&O). This role will serve as the primary coordination and execution support resource across the team’s portfolio of initiatives, helping drive alignment, visibility, accountability, and delivery across multiple infrastructure, governance, and operational workstreams. The successful candidate will partner closely with scientists, software engineers, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and leadership to coordinate initiatives related to cloud financial management, infrastructure governance, AI Factory enablement, compute capacity planning, optimization programs, and operational improvements. The role will help translate strategic objectives into executable plans while ensuring cross-functional teams remain aligned on priorities, milestones, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
Description of the Area The FinOps & Technical Enablement function within CS CoE P&O provides financial visibility, governance, forecasting, reporting, onboarding coordination, optimization enablement, and decision support across cloud and emerging infrastructure domains. As the organization’s infrastructure landscape expands across cloud, on-premises, AI infrastructure, and shared scientific platforms, the function is evolving to support five core capability areas:
- Visibility: Providing transparency into infrastructure consumption, utilization, and economics.
- Governance: Establishing scalable governance models for hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Economics: Supporting forecasting, showback, attribution, and investment planning.
- Prioritization: Helping align infrastructure investments with organizational priorities.
- Optimization: Identifying efficiency opportunities, supporting optimization initiatives, and tracking outcomes.
- Through these capabilities, the team connects infrastructure consumption, financial visibility, governance maturity, optimization opportunities, and portfolio priorities to support better decision-making across the CS CoE ecosystem.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management
- Coordinate execution of initiatives across the FinOps & Technical Enablement roadmap.
- Maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, risks, and dependencies.
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination across technical and business stakeholders.
- Track actions and ensure timely follow-up on commitments and deliverables.
Governance & Operational Cadence
- Support governance meetings, workshops, and review forums.
- Coordinate agendas, materials, action tracking, and communications.
- Support execution of governance processes and operating rhythms.
Portfolio Visibility & Reporting
- Maintain visibility into initiative status, risks, dependencies, and resource constraints.
- Develop executive-ready status updates and reporting materials.
- Support roadmap management and portfolio-level planning activities.
- Support development of executive-ready communications, presentations, and decision-support materials.
Stakeholder Management
- Facilitate communication and alignment across RDT, xRED partners, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
- Help drive alignment across teams with competing priorities and dependencies.
- Escalate risks and blockers when appropriate.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve planning, execution, governance, and reporting processes.
- Support implementation of operational improvements that increase team effectiveness and scalability.
Qualifications Education / Experience
- Experience in project management, program management, PMO, business operations, technology operations, or related disciplines.
- BA/BS+ degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in project management, program management, PMO, business operations, technology operations, or related disciplines.
- Familiarity with FinOps principles, cloud financial management, cloud infrastructure, AI infrastructure, GPU environments, compute capacity planning, or related technology domains.
- Ability to facilitate discussions between technical and business stakeholders and translate technical concepts into actionable plans.
- Experience coordinating complex initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Experience supporting technical, infrastructure, cloud, or digital transformation programs.
Technical / Business Skills
- Strong project planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Jira, Agile delivery practices, project tracking tools, or similar platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex topics into clear status updates and action plans.
Additional Qualifications
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Experience working within matrix organizations.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and execution discipline.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent experience preferred.Engagement Details
- Location: Remote (within Continental US or Canada - East Coast preferred) or, on-site in South San Francisco, CA.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week); must be available during normal East Coast business hours - will work closely with teams in both Central Europe CET and US West Coast PST.
