Director of IPP Sales
Location: Remote (U.S.)

Position Overview
Virginia Transformer is seeking a strategic and growth-oriented Director of IPP Sales to lead commercial engagement with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), renewable energy developers, and large power generation customers across North America.
This role will focus on building strong relationships with IPPs developing utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and conventional generation projects. The Director will drive transformer sales tied to generation interconnection, step-up transformers, substation transformers, and power infrastructure supporting energy generation and grid integration.
The ideal candidate brings strong industry relationships, a deep understanding of power generation markets, and experience selling large electrical equipment or infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
IPP Market Development
- Lead business development efforts targeting Independent Power Producers (IPPs), renewable developers, and generation asset owners.
- Build and manage strategic relationships with major IPP customers across North America.
- Identify new opportunities tied to power generation projects, interconnection infrastructure, and substation development.
Strategic Account Leadership
- Develop long-term account strategies for key IPP customers.
- Maintain executive-level relationships with project developers, engineering teams, and procurement leaders.
- Support customers through project lifecycle stages including development, engineering, procurement, and construction.
Sales & Commercial Leadership
- Drive revenue growth through transformer sales supporting generation interconnection and grid infrastructure.
- Lead proposal development, commercial negotiations, and contract structuring.
- Work with internal engineering teams to ensure technical solutions meet project requirements.
Project Pipeline Management
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of generation and grid interconnection projects.
- Track power generation project development cycles, RFP timelines, and procurement schedules.
- Coordinate internal resources to ensure competitive proposal development.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and supply chain teams.
- Ensure customer requirements are clearly communicated internally to support project execution.
- Support technical discussions regarding transformer specifications and project integration.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor industry trends across renewable energy, grid modernization, and generation infrastructure.
- Track major project developments and infrastructure investment trends.
- Provide strategic insights to leadership regarding emerging market opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in power equipment sales, energy infrastructure markets, or large capital equipment sales.
- Strong understanding of power generation, substations, and transformer applications.
- Experience working with Independent Power Producers, renewable developers, or EPC contractors.
- Proven ability to develop strategic customer relationships and manage complex project sales cycles.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience selling power transformers, substations, or large electrical equipment.
- Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Relationships with major IPPs, renewable developers, and EPC firms.
- Understanding of generation interconnection and grid infrastructure requirements.
