Applied Data Scientist

At Nota, we’re building the infrastructure for modern storytelling. Our platform powers content creation across industries from major newsrooms and sports networks to fast-moving startups. We use AI and automation to make storytelling faster, smarter, and more adaptive, empowering journalists and publishers to work more efficiently and creatively.

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to help us build the intelligence layer behind our products. You’ll develop, test, and deploy models across text, audio, image, and video, working at the intersection of data, research, and product. This is a hands-on role where you’ll experiment, analyze, and ship production ready models that directly shape how stories are created and shared.

Responsibilities

• Train and deploy AI models across text, audio, image, and video domains. 
• Source, gather, clean, and integrate new data sources, including both synthetic and real data obtained ethically from customers.
• Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and evaluate model performance, and thoroughly document findings and methodologies.
• Develop and maintain production-ready code for model inference and training pipelines (e.g., Docker containers, serverless functions).
• Automate and optimize model training pipelines, establishing clear metrics to monitor for drift.
• Collaborate with the engineering team, product stakeholders, and other data scientists to understand business needs and clarify product requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's (or higher) degree in a scientific field or equivalent experience. Suitable degrees would include Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics.
• 0-3 years of experience in data management, analytics, and machine learning, with hands-on experience in model development and deployment.
• Demonstrated experience in breaking down complex problems and developing iterative solutions.
• Strong understanding of AI modeling and deployment concepts, algorithms, and frameworks, with experience in deploying AI models.
• Proficiency in data analytics methodologies and tools, such as SQL, Python, and data visualization tools.
• Hands-on experience in NLP techniques, including training, fine tuning and optimizing transformers for custom applications.
• Familiarity with software development best practices and version control tools (e.g. Git).
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of statistical analysis.
