The Construction Manager will be responsible for the project management and delivery oversight of new restaurants and renovation projects for Mendocino Farms. They lead external teams and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure project completion while staying on time, within budget, and up-to brand standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage various project milestone budgets to meet individual store and portfolio cost objectives based on thorough understanding of site conditions and project scope.
- Maintain live project budgets and log change orders thoroughly and expeditiously for weekly capex reporting.
- Oversee bidding, negotiations/bid leveling, buy-out, and agreements with General Contractors, vendors and suppliers for new store and remodel projects.
- Review and approve invoicing of contractors, vendors and suppliers on projects; coordinate and work with internal procurement lead as well as accounting/finance.
- Develop schedules and coordinate with partners to meet individual project and portfolio objectives. Coordinate and track dates and milestones with internal and external parties to ensure timelines are met, and accurate information is reported and communicated promptly and effectively. Anticipate utility and supply chain schedule risks in advance and plan appropriately for risk mitigation and ensure accurate schedule projections are submitted.
- Overcome project delays by finding creative ways to recapture lost days.
- Leads the project entitlement process to ensure project use permits, design reviews, and ABC approvals are efficiently obtained, and company interests are represented.
- Collaborate with Architects and Permit Expeditors to obtain permits and licenses required to construct and operate stores. Ensure consultants’ work is fully coordinated and checked for quality and that authorities having jurisdiction comments are adequately addressed to cut down on required plan check cycles.
- Actively participate in quality control of all AE deliverables.
- Provide consistent feedback from the field in order that the team can maintain company “prototype” concepts and ensure consultants are keeping current with required details and standards and minimizing errors and omissions.
- Source and pre-qualify new General Contractors to meet the company’s growth objectives in current and future markets.
- Manage vendor and supplier deliverables to support the delivery of individual projects including scope, shop drawing, and submittal reviews.
- Ability to understand technical details is required to execute design concepts developed by design team and effectively implement them in a cost-effective value-driven manner.
- Extensive knowledge of construction methods and materials as well as working knowledge of MEP systems to assess project needs.
- Fully understand project site conditions and any red flag issues prior to construction start.
- Travel and collaborate with store development team to support site selection, due-diligence, and real estate approval.
- Travel to construction sites to oversee and manage General Contractor and vendor performance to ensure projects are delivered to the level of quality expected, within the timeline defined and, on the budget expected.
- Oversee and manage the hand-off of completed stores with store operations including punch list management and on-site support as needed during turnover and initial training.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of direct project management required; Experience with managing multiple construction projects simultaneously preferred; Multi-Unit Restaurant or Retail experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field or demonstrated previous experience in lieu of.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Flexibility with work hours and travel – 50% travel may be required depending on project load. Work outside of regular business hours may be required.
- Leadership: demonstrated ability to lead projects and get results through others.
- Planning: Ability to think ahead and anticipate project challenges and mitigate risk
- Management: Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands in fast paced environment and possibly in multiple geographic regions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office. Experience with Procore project management software a plus.
- Strong team player: Strong written and verbal communication skills .Continuous and effective cross-functional communication is a must.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Sitting / standing 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
