Our basic investigative activities concentrate on immunology, genetics/genomics, pharmacology, DNA repair and oncogene action. Our clinical science covers each cancer type; has a strong focus in clinical trials of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and in correlative laboratory studies. Our work is supported by a portfolio of peer-reviewed grants, industrial agreements and research endowments. The Division of Oncologywithin theDepartment of Medicineis actively seeking an experienced and proficient Research Administrator 2 to complement its dedicated team specializing in finance and research administration. This pivotal role involves providing crucial support to the division's finance team, particularly in the management of sponsored research accounts. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary contact for all financial and administrative activities related to the faculty they support. They will be responsible for preparing and distributing regular financial reports, collaborating with faculty and staff to review accounts, and providing detailed financial analysis, forecasting, and recommendations. This role will also require tracking and managing staff salary distribution across clinical trials with fluctuating revenue, ensuring strict compliance with internal policies and sponsor guidelines. The Research Administrator 2 will oversee expenditures, initiate funds transfers, update labor distribution, and handle other financial transactions to ensure adherence to university and sponsor regulations. The position involves managing research activities across the entire lifecycle, from proposal preparation to post-award administration of contracts and grants. The successful candidate will support faculty with large research portfolios that include a mix of federal, industry, and endowment funding, and manage a significant number of clinical trials. Experience with clinical trial financial management or a strong willingness to learn is essential. The Research Administrator 2 will collaborate with faculty to develop, revise, and finalize project budgets, secure cost-sharing commitments, and work closely with the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure proper award setup and the timely completion of financial reports. In addition, the Research Administrator 2 will be responsible for processing financial transactions, preparing journal entries, labor distribution schedules, and adjustments. They will manage the transfer of expenses from clearing accounts, reconcile accounts, and assist with budget preparation and award setup. On occasion, they will work with the division manager to maintain divisional revenue and operating accounts. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial analysis skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment. They should excel in anticipating needs, planning ahead, and managing multiple priorities with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with faculty, staff, and various stakeholders at all organizational levels. A proactive and adaptable approach is crucial for success in this role. This is a remote eligible position. Duties Include
- Participate with principal investigator in the preparation of the administrative components of proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines. Oversee and communicate submission process, both paper and electronic; review documents for completeness and compliance.
- Develop, prepare, and finalize project budgets, and provide budget justification.
- Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries.
- Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awards are set up properly and costsharing requirements are fulfilled; initiate cost transfers.
- Review and approve expenditures, advise on post award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to fund and revenue.
- Develop and communicate reports supporting project status; create effective forecasting and decision aides.
- Participate in contract closeout process; submit final reports and certificates. Compile information and documents needed for audit inquiries.
- Understand, apply, and advise on university and government policies for projects.
- Serve as a resource on subject area and overall technical resource to principal investigator and other university staff.
- Participate in and contribute to process improvements. Lead other staff in group projects
- May participate as a mentor and provide cross-training as needed.

Education & Experience (required)
- Bachelor's degree and three years of job-related experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (required)
- Basic knowledge of governmental regulations.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.
- Strong accounting skills; knowledge of accounting principles.
- Ability to complete Cardinal Curriculum I and II within first year in role.
- Knowledge of procurement needs, including sole sourcing, cost analyses, vendor requirements, and small business reporting.
- Knowledge of property management requirements related to Stanford or non-Stanford title of equipment and fabrications.
- Competency in project management.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Ability to work well independently, but also to seek or offer assistance when needed.
- Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with understanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsored project.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Certifications & Licenses
- Cardinal Curriculum I and II must be completed to remain in this position.
- Certified Accountant or Auditor or similar credential desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation and perform desk-based computer tasks, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to ten pounds.
- Occasionally stand, walk, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, write by hand and sort and file paperwork or parts.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has fiveRegional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate. The expected pay range for this position is $100,653 to $116,979 (within the 10 Bay Area counties) or $77,315 to $102,338 per annum (all other regions). Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
