Position Title: Mainframe COBOL Programmer
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Remote – local candidates only; open to Tucson and Flagstaff)
Shift/Hours: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 40 hours/week
Contract Duration: 1 year from start date
Projected Start Date: TBD (dependent on interviews, onboarding, and PO issuance)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL Programmer to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical applications. This role requires expertise in COBOL, CICS, ADABAS, VSAM, and IBM JCL, with the ability to work collaboratively and provide high-quality solutions in a complex mainframe environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and write programs and enhancements using COBOL, CICS, ADABAS, VSAM, and IBM JCL.
- Translate customer business requirements into technical specifications and functional solutions.
- Complete unit and system testing to ensure quality and performance of applications.
- Analyze, debug, and resolve defects in applications.
- Troubleshoot nightly batch processing and provide technical performance projections.
- Prepare detailed work plans, flowcharts, and documentation for system enhancements.
- Adhere to ITIL, CMMI, and SDLC best practices throughout development and operational support.
- Engage with stakeholders and business analysts to clarify requirements and ensure alignment with technical solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- COBOL programming expert with over 10 years of experience.
- Experience with ADABAS database systems; must demonstrate knowledge during interviews.
- Proficiency in CICS, VSAM, and IBM JCL.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in teams and across organizations.
- Strong customer service focus and commitment to delivering quality solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages, APIs, and platforms quickly.
