Role Overview Elevate is embarking on an exciting transformation journey from a non-tech company to a product-led organization where our technology will become a primary revenue driver. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of our engineering culture, practices, and products. As one of our first in-house engineering hires for the Experiences product, you'll work directly with our Head of Engineering to build our next-generation Experiences platform from the ground up. This platform will revolutionize how we create, manage, and deliver curated event packages - combining tickets, hotel accommodation, transportation, and luxury add-ons into seamless customer experiences. You'll be building both internal tools for our experiences team and customer-facing applications that showcase and sell premium event packages. You’ll work the following technology: Frontend: React, TypeScript, MUI, Backend: Python (Flask, FastAPI), Infrastructure: AWS (ECS, Lambda, Aurora PostgreSQL, API Gateway, S3), Payments: Stripe integration, Data Architecture: Redshift for analytics, Glue for ETL, Development Practices: Microservices architecture, micro-frontends, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code Key Responsibilities
- Hands-On Technical Leadership: Write high-quality code while also guiding the technical direction of the Experiences platform
- Advise Leadership: Provide technical guidance to Elevate leadership on key technology decisions and product roadmap considerations
- Roadmap Development: Develop and execute against both short and long-term roadmaps, making effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and technical sustainability
- Build Customer-Centric Products: Organize teams around customer problems rather than features, using rapid experimentation to validate solutions before investing heavily in them
- Develop Engineering Culture: Help establish a product engineering culture centered on outcomes, not outputs, where engineers are empowered to solve problems, not just build features
- Partner with Agency Teams: Effectively collaborate with our agency partners, leveraging their expertise while guiding the technical direction
- Create Scalable Solutions: Build high-quality, maintainable software that can scale with our business while maintaining the agility to pivot as we learn
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to ensure our technical solutions deliver business value
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes
- 7+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role
- You're still passionate about writing code and can lead by example with hands-on development
- Strong experience with modern web development technologies including React, TypeScript, and Python web frameworks (Flask, FastAPI)
- Experience designing and building scalable applications on AWS using services like ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, and Aurora
- You understand that technology exists to solve customer problems and create business value
- You can design solutions that balance technical considerations with business needs
- You measure success by business impact and customer satisfaction, not by features shipped or lines of code written
- You start with understanding the problem deeply before jumping to solutions
- You value learning through rapid experimentation and embrace a "progress over perfection" approach
- You can clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working effectively with development agency partners is a plus
- Background in travel booking systems, hospitality platforms, or package management systems is highly valuable
- Experience with payment processing, cart systems, and e-commerce workflows is a plus
