Job Description

Posted on: January 20, 2026

Employment Type

Part-time/ Remote/ Flexible working hours/ Hourly compensation

Work Schedule

Approximately 40–80 hours per month

Workload may fluctuate depending on project phases

Workload will increase during the final month of each quarter (reporting periods)

Compensation

USD $40–$80 per hour

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and level of responsibility

Position Background

We are currently managing four U.S. government–related projects:

Two projects will conclude in September 2026

Two additional projects have longer timelines, ending in approximately four years

We are a small, mission-driven nonprofit organization. While the number of projects is limited, the role requires independent judgment, attention to detail, and comfort working in a lean organizational environment.

To ensure continued compliance and sound financial management, we are seeking a part-time Senior Grants & Compliance Manager to provide oversight and support related to grants management and compliance for these U.S. government–related projects.

⚠️ This is a long-term part-time position, and we are seeking candidates who can commit to at least one year.

👉 Candidates seeking short-term transitional roles or full-time employment are not a good fit for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Provide oversight and support related to financial management and compliance for U.S. government–related projects

Review project budgets, expenditures, and significant financial adjustments

Assist in monitoring project implementation to ensure alignment with grant agreements and applicable compliance requirements

Regularly review project progress and identify potential compliance risks

Provide professional guidance to senior management on grants management and compliance matters

Assist, as needed, in responding to funder inquiries, audits, or compliance reviews

Collaborate with project staff responsible for day-to-day implementation, without assuming execution responsibilities

This role does not involve day-to-day project management or operational execution.

Assist in reviewing project-related contracts, subawards, or partnership agreements from a U.S. government grants and compliance perspective, identify potential compliance risks, and flag issues for management review

(Note: Final legal review and decision-making remain with senior management or legal counsel.)

Secondary Responsibilities

Assist, as needed, with U.S. government–related funding applications or renewals

Provide grants- or compliance-related input on organizational reports or policy-oriented publications

Represent the organization at meetings related to projects or funding, as appropriate

Qualifications

Required

At least three years of experience managing or supporting multiple U.S. government–funded projects

Familiarity with project reporting, financial reviews, or compliance support processes

Familiarity with U.S. government–funded projects (federal grants) and general grants management and compliance requirements

Experience in grants management, compliance, or project oversight

Ability to independently assess compliance issues related to financial management and project implementation

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Ability to commit to approximately 40–80 hours per month, with increased availability during quarterly reporting periods

Preferred

Candidates based in the Washington, DC or New York area are preferred, as proximity facilitates communication with funders (DC) and coordination with our office (NY), but this is not a requirement

Chinese language skills are not required but will be considered an asset

Application Process

Please submit:

 A résumé (CV)

A brief statement describing your experience with U.S. government grants or compliance management

Confirmation that you are able to commit to a long-term part-time role (approximately 40–80 hours per month, with increased workload during quarterly reporting periods)

Submit your application to: amelia@chinalaborwatch.org
